Fossil Free York is a group of undergrads, grad students, faculty and staff calling on York University to divest from fossil fuel companies. We are pushing the university to develop more socially and environmentally conscious investment policies. Beyond this campaign, we would like to work towards a carbon-neutral campus and support other campus environmental initiatives. In August 2016, we submitted our divestment proposal to YUACRI. During the 2016-7 school year, we presented in several classes, organized a vigil around the Kinder Morgan pipeline, attended climate rallies and organized against the suspension of YUACRI.
Our immediate goal is for York to divest from fossil fuel companies and to develop socially and environmentally progressive investment policies. Our intention is for York students, faculty, and staff to become more aware of climate change and committed to climate justice. Our focus this coming year will be to fight the suspension of YUACRI and to push forward our proposal.
